Wings Series Background and Definitions
My research and origins of the Wings Series
A few years ago, I began to look at Bible prophecies, which gave me ideas that formed my novel, The SAVANT. At that time, I wondered what it would be like to see the future, and the character of Arlo emerged. This is an autistic boy with a unique ability to foresee upcoming events.
After that, I took a deeper look at prophecies, starting with a study of the Book of Daniel, which is fascinating. After that came Matthew 24 and the Book of Revelation. These are full of amazing predictions and imagery.
Then, I considered how some of this imagery might be incorporated into a story, and the Wings Series was born.
When does the Wings Series take place?
The Wings Series happens as events develop before the Apocalypse, which is a time when the earth's kings go into a final battle.
What happens during that pre-Apocalypse period?
To name a few characteristics of this period, it will be a time of chaos and confusion with many false teachers with different 'truths'. Nations will rise against nations, and world leaders will demand absolute loyalty. It will be a time of tribulation and persecution.
In addition;
Matthew 24:9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me."
Matthew 24:21-22 “For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.”
Who is Wings?
In this series, Neqameh, an avenging angel has given the main character a name, Wings. In the first five books of the series, we don't learn the actual name of Wings, although he uses a pseudonym for a time or two.
Wings comes from a broken background. He grew up in the ghettos of Los Angeles, where he learned to fight to survive. He has a dark experience, "having done terrible things." He worked his way up in the Los Angeles Cartel, a criminal organization that controls the city's political and economic functions. But Wings did something against the Cartel. As he said in The Munich Shift, "I robbed their piggy bank." After doing that, he took on a new identity and fled to Europe, where he bought a farm in the south of France.
He lived on his farm for three years, sometimes taking tourist trips around Europe. Being away from Los Angeles allowed him to consider his troubled past. Then, one day while walking on a path near his farm, he met two Malaks (angels). One of them is Michael, a powerful archangel found in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation, Michael leads a heavenly army that defeats the Evil One and his army of fallen angels.
The second angel is Neqameh, who is fictional. He works for Michael. There is more description about Neqameh below. Neqameh spends time with Wings and requests Wings to go on a dangerous mission. From there, the adventure starts.
What's unique about Wings is that he has been given some special abilities that don't work all the time. In this regard, he is something like a superhero but with limitations.
In creating Wings, I imagined it might be interesting to have someone different from most Christian characters in fiction. Christianity is a practice of love and mercy because it reflects the nature of God. But we must not forget that God is also a God of judgment. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of that, where tribes and people came under condemnation and destruction. This will also happen in the future. God often uses people and nations to enact His judgment.
Matthew 24: speaks of the wicked servant, who, “The Master will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The Book of Revelation speaks about "bowls" of judgment being poured on the earth. This will be a terrible time. Spirits and angels working for God will be assigned these tasks. The idea of the Wings Series is to have a human character who works for one of these angels. Wings was chosen for this task because he has the right background.
Wings Series is Fiction
Still, hopefully, the series might encourage readers to explore prophetic topics in the Bible and understand God's plan, which is not fiction.
And let me give a disclaimer. I am a fiction writer and not a theologian, and I know there are different interpretations of prophecy, so please enjoy the wings series as fantasy loosely based on Bible themes. But you might like to know that I am someone who found God's grace.
Definition of Terms Used in the Wings Series
A Malak: A Hebrew word (מַלְאַךְ mal’āḵ) meaning an angel or messenger, and often a messenger from God. It is used various times in the Old Testament. For instance, in Exodus 33:2, God says he will send an angel (Malak) before the Israelites and that God will drive out the Canaanites. In this case, the Malak leads the Israelites before a conquest.
Neqameh: The word Neqameh is Hebrew word for vengeance or revenge (נְקָמָה) and is the name of the Malak, a fictious avenging angel that guides Wings. The term in the Old Testament often refers to God's vengeance over evil. For instance, Micah 5:15 says, "I will take vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations that have not obeyed me."
Highest One: 'God Most High' is a term often used in the Bible. An example is Psalm 57:2, which says, “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.” Daniel 4:2 says, “It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me.” The Hebrew words El, Elohim, and Yahweh are all translated to mean “the highest LORD.” The meaning here is the mighty, sovereign God, the great and majestic one, and God above all others. From this, we understand that the Highest Lord is the most powerful and ultimate being.
The Gathering: Underground groups that follow the Highest One. According to scripture, there will be an intense persecution of Christians and Jews in the future. Therefore, it will be necessary for them to meet secretly, and it is plausible that they will employ technology to communicate. We already see examples of this in dictatorial countries in the world.
The Scroll: The holy, sacred text, from the Book of Geneisis to the Book of Revelation. It is the Word of God.
Sozo: This is the Greek word for salvation. According to Biblical scholars, its meaning is more than forgiveness of sins. According to Strong’s Concordance, Sozo carries the idea of being delivered from your enemy, and spiritually, that enemy is the devil and his demons.
Ersatz Teacher: Previously known as False Teachers, this was redefined as Honorable Teacher. However, the Gathering still knows them as false teachers. The dictionary defines ersatz as “A fake substitute replacing something genuine."
Svengalis: Thug enforcers working for Ersatz Teachers and World Leaders. The term Svengalis comes from a character in the novel Trilby, first published in 1894 by George du Maurier. Svengali is a man who seduces, dominates, and exploits. In the book, the term had some antisemitic meanings, which in no way are implied in the Svengalis in the Wings Series. After the book’s publication in 1894, the word "Svengali" has come to refer to a person who, with evil intent, dominates, manipulates, and controls another. In the Wings Series, the Svengalis are evil goons.
DefSars: The defiant princes. Spiritual beings who rebelled against the Highest One. They control the Pravus. In the Old Testament, Sars are princes. From the Bible, we learn there is a class of angels who went against God and were banned from heaven and sent to earth. They will meet an end when cast into a lake of fire.
Children of the Covenant: A promise, or covenant, was made to Abraham and to all of his descendants. Historically, the Jews have faced persecution that cannot be imagined. In the Wings Series, many immigrated back to The Glorious Land, which was given to them by God. There one finds the Holy City, Jerusalem, which has both past and future spiritual significance. From there, the Messiah will rule.
Pravus: From Latin for perverse, depraved, and wicked. These are evil and corrupt kings and politicians who command the police and military. The Pravus are servants of the DefSars.
Chloros Horse: This is the final horse of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which is also known as the Pale Horse or the Horse of Pestilence. Revelation 6:7-8 reads, “When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.”
The original Greek word used here for pale is χλωρός, or chlóros, meaning pale green or pale yellow. From it comes the word chlorine in English. It is a sickly, ghostly-looking color and represents the pestilence it brings.
It's of interest that the rider's name is Death. What being is given the assignment to ride that horse?
