Recipe for Apple Pie - Tarte

In my novel The COOKBOOK, Emma and Clara loved to cook. They prepared foods from many different countries. They were from Eastern Europe and Kate laughed that even though they used the apple pie recipe from the Betty Crocker cookbook, their apple pie never seemed to be like those made in America.
Here is a recipe for apple tarte that I picked up in Holland. It is in grams so I will leave it up to you to do the conversion.
This one is very simple to make but at the end of the recipe I've suggested other ingredients to enhance the pie if you want to.

For the pastry:
250 gr flour
150 gr butter
80 gr of sugar
2 eggs
For the filling,
8 apples
1 tablespoon sugar
pinch of cinnamon
butter for greasing pan
Okay, here's how to prepare it.
1. Preheat oven to to 180 ° C. 2. Make the dough with flour, butter, sugar and eggs, kneading together. Allow to dough to rest. 3. Peel the apples and remove the cores. Cut the apples into cubes and toss with the sugar and cinnamon. (This one cuts the apples into cubes rather than slices.) 4. Roll out the dough and place it in a buttered pie dish. 5. Spoon the filling into the dough and press firmly. 6. Use leftover dough to decorate the top of the cake. 7. Bake in your preheated oven about 40 to 50 minutes until cooked and golden brown. Experiment by making variations of the filling by adding with the following ingredients: a handful of walnuts, 50 g diced pineapple, drained, 3 pears instead of 3 apples, rum-soaked raisins, 2 tablespoons shredded coconut, handful dried cranberries, 1 tablespoon granola, 1 spoon of citron, 10 dried and sliced apricots, zest of one lemon, 100 g almond paste rolled out the pie crust, crumbled macaroons at the pastry. |
Of course to make it American you need to add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Click Here for a list of all the foods and recipes in my novel The COOKBOOK. |
